On April 1, 2025, University of Illinois Chicago Associate Director for Community Standards Khyla Breland notified student Marie Ching of a report filed against Ching for her Instagram posts criticizing another student’s lack of participation in a group project. At an April 7 meeting, Breland allegedly told Ching the posts may constitute harassment. On April 11, Â鶹´«Ã½IOS wrote UIC, explaining that the posts do not reach the Supreme Court’s definition of actionable harassment because they are neither severe, objectively offensive, nor discriminatory on the basis of a protected class. On April 17, UIC confirmed it dropped the investigation and Ching would not face any discipline..
